This year, our fundraiser will be hosted by comedian Zane Thomas. It will feature our new Executive Director Huy Nguyen, our keynote speaker and the Executive Director of the ACLU of Washington Michele Storms, and comedian Lee Nacozy. Our evening will include drinks, dinner by Lily’s Salvadorean Restaurant, a 50/50 Raffle, a delectable Dessert Auction, and a chance to raise your paddle and support BLC at our most important fundraising event of the year!

EMCEE AND COMEDIAN

Zane Thomas is a comedian and rapper who has been performing comedy for over 10 years in both Portland and Seattle. He is a Mental Health and Addiction Advocate. He has performed at other comedy events to raise awareness for mental health services. He is also the host of two podcasts, “The Smoke Break” and “Off The Cuff With Dez and Zane”.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Michele Storms is the Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington (ACLU of Washington), former Deputy Director of the ACLU of Washington, and previous Assistant Dean for Public Service and executive director of the William H. Gates Public Service Law program at the University of Washington School of Law. Preceding those roles, she served as a statewide advocacy coordinator first at Columbia Legal Services and later at the Northwest Justice Project where over a combined five-year period she coordinated civil legal aid advocacy in the areas of family law, youth and education, housing, elder law, Native American and right to counsel issues. Michele is concerned with equity and justice for all and has dedicated her professional and personal attention to access to justice, preservation of freedom and democracy for all and ensuring that all humans safely reside in the “circle of human concern.”

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Huy Nguyen is BLC’s new Executive Director as of mid-July. He received a law degree from the University of Washington School of Law and he brings over two decades of experience serving as an advocate for social justice. Huy has 16+ years of experience working with clients in the public benefits space at Northwest Justice Project, and spent five years at the University of Washington School of Law, where he was the Director of the W.H. Gates Public Service Law Program. He has taught Public Benefits and Poverty Law at Seattle University and UW School of Law.

COMEDIAN

Lee Nacozy is a Seattle-based comedian who has been featured in sold-out Comedy Nest and Gay City shows and an award-winning documentary film about progressive comedy. She is also a devoted student and teacher of improv with a social justice framework and has worked as the program manager of the QLaw Foundation and the editor of Real Change newspaper.
